Christmas 2013

Don't look now but Christmas is not far away!  In fact, from all accounts we're only talking about just two months or so.  So high time for me to start making my Christmas cards.  So over the next few days, I would like to share some of my cards that are going to feature in my 2013 collection!

I've made a few of these cards, as they're really simple but classic and beautiful.  Going outside of my comfort zone (for Christmas that is), I've used Coastal Cabana, Whisper White and silver.  Very elegant!

I've cut out ornaments using my Ornament Keepsakes framelits which are still available from last year's Christmas catalogue.  I've pierced all around using my piercing tool and my own spacing.  I've added silver ribbon from the latest Holiday Catalogue and added DSP to the background for contrast.  A gem or two, Merry Christmas stamped and embossed in silver ..... well it makes for a lovely card.  Any colour combination would work with this design too!

To make this card I used the following SU supplies:

Stamps: Greetings of the Season
Papers: Coastal Cabana & Whisper White CS and Winter Frost DSP Paper Stack
Inks: VersaMark
Accessories: Big Shot & Ornament framelits, silver embossing powder and heat gun, Silver 1/8" ribbon & gems.

classic!

25% Off 25 Stamp Sets

We're celebrating Stampin' Up!'s 25th anniversary all year long, but during the week of the actual date (25 October to be exact) we thought we should pump up the party even more. So what better way than a sale on the very products that started it all: stamps, of course!

More Butterfly Love

So a little while ago, well just over a week ago maybe, I shared a few of my favourite butterfly cards made with the Swallowtail Stamp.  It was Butterfly Love.  Well now I can share some more of my cards made with this stamp!

These cards were made during a class showcasing new techniques and for me, a very different but striking colour combination.  Elegant Eggplant and Crushed Curry.  Who knew!

The first card uses the technique of colouring in with Blender Pens.  The colours featured for the butterfly include Elegant Eggplant, Crushed Curry & Tangerine Tango.  Quite striking don't you think!

The card is deliberately layered so that the butterfly is bigger than the card.  Quite an illusion really as the card finishes up to be suitable for a regular envelope!

This second card, features clear embossing of the card and sponging with Elegant Eggplant card.  Not quite the way the original design was supposed to be, but a bit of adaption fixed that!  Don't you love the DSP in the background?  The Eastern Elegance DSP is stunning.

And I have to say, I really like this Chevron ribbon too!  So if you would like to make these cards, there is a coordinating box too as well as cards made similar to the ones shown in my Butterfly Love posts, please contact me.  Fabulous cards with great techniques!

So here's what I used:
Stamps: Swallowtail & Express Yourself
Inks: Basic Black, Elegant Eggplant, Crushed Curry & Tangerine Tango
Papers: Crushed Curry, Elegant Eggplant, Whisper White CS & Eastern Elegance DSP
Accessories: Crushed Curry 3/4" Chevron Ribbon, mini Silver brads, Blender Pens & Sponges

Flower Shop

So I have fallen behind on sharing my cards again (again).  So I'm back to share some of my projects I've made over the past few weeks, to try and catch up and get on track again!!

Today's project share is a card I made for a lovely new friend and demo.  I love the excuse to make for friends!  So inspired by a pinterest find (again), I decided to make this very pretty card and one I think would be lovely in other colour combinations too!

This card uses the very gorgeous and new Flower Shop stamp set and coordinating Pansy Punch.  I love punches, they make crafting so quick.

I've used Baked Brown Sugar embossed with the Honeycomb folder, and tied off with some Linen Thread.  A little birthday banner too!

I've stamped the flowers with Lucky Limeade, Coastal Cabana & Island Indigo.  I've used lots of Dazzling Diamonds glitter to colour the centre of the Lucky Limeade flower.

To make this card, I've used the follwowing SU supplies:

Stamps: Itty Bitty Banners & Flower Shop
Papers: Whisper White & Baked Brown Sugar CS
Inks: Lucky Limeade, Coastal Cabana & Island Indigo
Accessories: Pansy Punch, Bakers Twine, Linen Thread, Big Shot & Honeycomb Embossing Folder

Hope you enjoyed this card share :)

Ombre Card

I love the effect of Ombre.  The colour dipping, the colour shading and the contrast of colours.  So a while back when I showed the Avid Inker girls the ombre technique, I set about making my own card and never did finish it.  We used paper hand-cut feathers as the feature but I decided I didn't like it, so started again.

This time I used a flower die cut (the Chloe Stem) as the feature.  And this time it worked..... see for yourself!!

Eek, the colour looks a bit harsh in this photo but you can see I've created an ombre effect with the greens and the blues.  I've cut the colour strips and adhered them together with sticky tape on the back which allowed me to use my Chloe Stem Die to cut the flower out of this layer.  You can just see behind the two Whisper White die cuts, that I've cut out from the colour layer.

I've layered all of this onto a Whisper White CS card base and then adorned with gems, Linen thread and a stamped button made of the Simply Pressed Clay, coloured and glazed with Crystal Effects.  I've stamped with the little mosaic from the Mosaic Madness stamp set.

To make this card I've used the following:

Stamps: Teeny Tiny Sentiments & Mosaic Madness
Papers: Pear Pizzazz, Island Indigo, Marina Mist & Whisper White CS
Inks: Early Espresso
Accessories: Big Shot, Chloe Stem die (non-SU), gems, Linen Thread  & Simply Pressed Clay

Butterfly Love

So it's no secret I love butterflies!  So when the opportunity to use the gorgeous Swallowtail stamp occurs, love it I do.  Over the last few months I have been sharing/teaching a class based on the Swallowtail stamp.  Today I'm sharing two cards based on the techniques in this class but using my colour choices!

My first card features the new In Colours of Baked Brown Sugar, Coastal Cabana and Strawberry Slush.  The colours mix beautifully and sparkle with all the Dazzling Diamonds I added!

I've used Crumb Cake seam binding for a nice loopy bow and added a little banner using the Six Sided Sampler Stamp set.

The card is offset by a piece of Strawberry Slush CS.  So pretty!  The second card also uses In Colours, the latest in colours of Baked Brown Sugar and Pistachio Pudding, mixed in with Summer Starfruit.  I never thought I would love Summer Starfruit but I do!

I have edged the right wing of the butterfly with Pistachio Pudding CS and added a strip of Summer Starfruit DSP for contrast.

I loved making these cards.  If you would like the tutorial to make at home, let me know.  It's a gorgeous set with lots of fab new techniques!

Cascade Card

Sometimes birthdays are more 'special' then others.  Why we put significance on these, who knows but when these special birthdays come up - well, we just have to make something to remember!  So when a dear friend turned 40 recently, well a double tri-fold cascade card was in order!

There are lots of tutorials on YouTube and Technique sites, so I won't share the instructions here, instead click here for the tutorial I used.  You'll see from the photos, the technique is worth trying!!

Apologies for the lighting.... I just couldn't get it right!  I used the feature colours of Groovy Guava and Baja Breeze for this card, based on this lovely floral DSP that I have and long retired (features a lot in my scrap albums though!).

The actual card base is Whisper White CS, with the first layer of Groovy Grava and then DSP.  I didn't have exact measurements for these layers, just used a ruler as a guide and made each layer about half a centimetre smaller than the last.  Not precise but worked well!

From the side angle, you can see the cascades come into play.  Each cascade has been decorated with flowers and butterflies, with a few overlaps but not so much so that I couldn't fit it into an envelope!

Of course, the front layer has the number 40 cut out from Silver Glimmer using the Big Shot and a little birthday banner.  Add lots of pearls and the card was done!

So when you're up to a challenge, have a try of this card.  The effects are beautiful!

Lollipops!

Just a quick but fun post today.  This project is just perfect for kids and a really fun holiday project.    All kids like lollipops right?  So guess what, you can make them look pretty too with scraps of paper and ribbon, and just a punch or two.

The lollipops that are flat and wrapped in plastic are the best for this little project.  It makes for very easy decorating.  Just a few glue dots and you'll hold it all in place.

I've used Gumball Green and Midnight Muse patterned papers from the Patterns Stack and cut them out with the Pansy punch.  I've used three layers with a glue dot in-between.

I've punched a little circle from a scrap of silver glimmer paper and added to the flowers.  Curl up the petals of the top flower and glue to the lollipop.

Add a piece of ribbon and you're done!  The kids love them and they make a great project for the kids at school, at parties, or just because!

Leaves

Aaarrrgghhh!!  Blogger ate up all my scheduled posts.  I thought I would be clever and have my posts all ready to go, so all I would have to do is click share.  Sadly they disappeared and now I have to re-think and try to remember my 'witty' posting!!

And of course, I can't!!  So instead I'm going to show you a birthday card I made for one of my close friends.  The card was inspired by a SU project, so I just had to convert to my style and with my stamps on hand ... French Foliage!

I've gone for quite a different colour combination for me!  Cajun Craze, Summer Starfruit, Coastal Cabana and Crumb Cake, with the Paris postmarks stamped in Gumball Green.

I've added a little ribbon detail for interest, using lace, Pool Party ruffled ribbon and hemp twine, fastened in place with a mini brad.

I've cut and added a leaf stamped in Gumball Green for interest.  It sits just over the ribbon detail with a little bit popped up with a dimensional.  You'll also see a bit of double stamping too, where I've stamped the image twice without reinking.

The card base uses Cajun Craze a lovely colour but not one that I've used often.... until now!

Stamps: French Foliage
Inks: Cajun Craze, Summer Starfruit, Coastal Cabana and Crumb Cake, Gumball Green & black
Papers: Whisper White & Cajun Craze CS
Accessories: mini-brads, ribbon, twine & lace.

Happy Fathers Day

Happy Father's Day....... Yes I know Father's Day 2013 has come and gone, but I've only just given my card to my dad.  My dad lives in Melbourne, I live in Canberra, so I decided to keep the card and give it to him in person when he visited us last week.  So now it's safe to share here!  He's got the card and it wouldn't ruin the surprise!!

My dad is a retired builder, wonderful gardener and the best dad ever.  So it was with much pleasure to combine these elements to make dad this card:

I pulled out the Lovely as a Tree, one of my favourite and truly versatile stamp sets.  I stamped in Black StazOn ink and used my blender brushes to colour the tree and sponging for the background. I think I used Soft Sky for the sky and Always Artichoke & Chocolate Chip for the tree.

I've used my Gorgeous Grunge stamp set to create the background on the Soft Suede base.  These lines gave my card a 'wood/timber' look.

I used my Oval framelits to cut the tree and a base also from Soft Suede CS and highlighted them with a few black pearls (need coloured pearls?  Use your sharpie pens to colour them in!!)

I've added a bit of interest with a strip of DSP from the Eastern Elegance DSP pack.  Just stunning that pack of papers.  One of my favourites!!

So here's what I used:
Stamps: Lovely as a Tree, Gorgeous Grunge & Teeny Tiny Sentiments
Inks: Soft Suede, Early Espresso, Always Artichoke, Soft Sky, Chocolate Chip & Jet Black StazOn
Papers: Soft Suede & Whisper White CS, Eastern Elegance DSP
Accessories: Big Shot, Oval Framelits, Word Window punch, pearls (coloured black)

Happy Father's Day.  Love you xx
