Some Spice Cake

It's Monday night and I'm exhusted after a busy LONG weekend.  Long because of the public holiday on Thursday, not because it dragged!  I got myself some of my unfinished projects and sat down for some crafting time!  I finished two scrap layouts (although I'll share those when I've put the photos on .... I'm waiting for delivery on the photos!!), I made a card, a loopy flower and even got some sewing and crochet in.    That's on top of a spontaneous crafting time on Friday night with friends and craft shopping on Sunday.  Yep, that's a fair bit to make up for my obvious withdrawals.

So one of the cards I made is the lovely Happy Birthday card using Spice Cake products from the Summer Mini catalogue.  Designed by my friend & fellow demonstrator, Tania - it combines a colour combination I wouldn't normally use with some classic elegance.

This card is a little bit different from the original design of Tania which you can see for yourself over at Inky Dayz.  I've flipped the colours around and used different stamps (mainly because (shock  horror), I didn't have the ones Tania used!!

This is the same card!!  I've been fiddling with the Instagram camera feature on my phone which gives lovely vintage effects, highlights or takes out colour.  I'm trying to overhaul my whole style of showing these photos, so I'm experimenting in the mean time!  The first photo is more true to the colours then the vintage brighter card.

So if you're wondering, I used the following Stampin' Up! supplies:

Stamps: Posy Punch, Curly Cute & Polka Dot Punches
Inks: Pool Party & Soft Suede
Papers: Very Vanilla, Soft Suede, More Mustard & Spice Cake DSP
Other: 5- Petal Flower Punch, 1.3 cm Circle Punch, Scallop Trim Border Punch, Tafetta Ribbon, Basic Jewels Pearls Snail Adhesive, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Mini Glue Dots

Fridge Calendars

While I'm on the subject of calendars, and I can, seeing it is still the first month of a new year (wink wink), I thought I might show a couple of little fridge calendars I made for friends who had their birthdays this month.  A cute little gift that fits inside the card & envelope.

Owl Calendar.  Made for my friend who just loves owls and the colour of purple.  Hoot Hoot!!

The Precious Butterflies (current Hostess set) sentiment goes perfectly with 2011's SAB set - Bliss
I used coasters (I've stocked up from both the local and online!!) covered in DSP.  I attached a mini calendar on the front and used magnet sheets that I found in the mailbox (from real estates etc), cut in thick strips and attached to the back with sticky strip.  Just make sure you stick down the right side of the magnet strip!!!

A great gift idea, and I have only 1 or 2 mini calendars left.  If you would like to make your own calendars, contact me - I have spare coasters too.  First in, first served though!

Calendar days

What a busy week it has been!  While I've been at work and my WH has been home looking after the kids, my dad and nephew travelled up from Melbourne to spend the week with us.  My dad is an amazingly skilled builder, so we took him up on his offer to build us a deck.  And yay!  The deck is almost done.  It was finished by the afternoon of Australia Day, which was hooray we will have our bbq there, but then came the downpour!!  Indoors it was!

The deck still hasn't got a roof (waiting on a permit) and dad will be back from that, but in the few moments I had spare this week, I got around to some sewing (shock horror), 1 scrap layout and taking photos of a few bits and pieces.  Just like my calendar pages, which as usual have fallen behind in sharing.  So much for my new years resolutions ;0)

All of these pages, use scraps of cardstock and DSP, most of which are retired.  They are in my box of bits and pieces, which I think I might donate to the preschool this year!  Here they are:

Featuring the Owl builder punch & Just Believe sentiment
Colouring on Copics and Season of Joy sentiment
Colouring with Copics & retired DSP
If you're interested in what colours or papers I have used, retired or not, let me know and I'll dig around and find out!!

Angry Birds!

Angry Birds, can you believe what a craze they are?  Ever since I got my iphone, my boys have loved everything angry birds.  So when it was my nephew's 9th birthday back in October and my son's 4th birthday back in November, I just had to make some!  And yes, these cards are from my 2011 archives.  Made and sent long ago, found in my photos folder on the computer but not on the blog!

So here they are:

They're very cute when I put the two cards together!

I can't remember what colour of cardstock I used, but the colours speak for themselves.  I used lots of punches and love how I've used some bakers twine to create the slingshot.

If you want to make your own Angry Bird cards, google Stampin' Up! & Angry Birds and you'll find hundreds to choose from. I even found a great cheat sheet that shows some of the punches to use - just  click here!

Summer Swaps

It's supposed to be Summer.  I'll say it again, it's supposed to be Summer!!  We went down to the NSW Coast for our summer holiday, but I wouldn' say the weather was very summery, spring weather at best!  So with Summer being a bit of a non-event this year, I will talk about Summer Mini swaps instead!

I belong to a wonderful group of Stampin' Up! demonstrators called Avid Inkers, we've had members come and go, but they've all been lovely and all contribute to the group in their very own special way!  Anyway, we were having a Christmas meet up in December (which I couldn't go to, as my kids had gastro or something like that), so I sent my swaps in the mail.  I will show you when I can some lovely swaps in return!

I used a lovely Valentine's stamp set called 'You are Loved', but you can see that in my swaps, they aren't Valentine oriented at all.  Shows how versatile Stampin' Up! stamps can be!  I made little gift cards that accompanied the main piece ......

My lavender heart sachets!  I stamped the heart onto some white cotton fabric (homespun I think) using StazOn ink, sewed all around with the new Cherry Cobbler bakers twine (SO LOVE THAT!), and used pinking shears to cut.  I also filled each heart with sweet smelling lavender.

Pity I didn't make enough for myself ....  they would make great little additions to my clothes drawers!

Stamps: You are Loved & Tiny Tags
Inks: Black StazOn & Early Espresso, Pear Pizzazz, Marina Mist, Blushing Bride
Papers: Whisper White, Pear Pizzazz, Marina Mist & Blushing Bride
Other: Cherry Cobbler Bakers Twine, fabric, pinking shears and sponge daubers

Happy New Year 2012

Happy New Year!  Can you believe it's 2012?  The last year (can you believe we're saying that!!) just went by so fast, was so wonderful and busy that I look forward to 2012!  I have made no real resolutions this year, just to be more proactive (and on time) for sending birthday, Christmas and any cards.  And to really get stuck into my crafting now that I won't be studying this year!

It would be remiss of me though to not share some of the beautiful handmade cards my family and I received for Christmas.  These are just a few of the handmade cards I received, in no particular order and to each sender and creator, I am thankful. I have received many more but my blog post would be too long, so I'll save for sharing another time!
